Who's eating ice cream? (July 2004)
The US leads the world, as it has for some time with per capita consumption of ice cream at 23 litres. At the other extreme are Mexico and the Philippines which have a low per capita consumption of less than 1 litre per head per year. Warm weather is not always the reason for high consumption. For example, the average Swede eats 13 litres per year, consuming nearly 3 times as much as the average Spaniard at 5 litres.

An additional factor to take into consideration is that Sweden’s summer lasts about 5-6 weeks and if the weather is bad, ice cream sales can drop by as much as 70%.

In Australia, we have the luxury of warm weather in places like Queensland and WA which results in relatively stable consumption patterns all year round.

Which Scoop is Best? (July 2004)
To get a perfect round scoop of ice cream, the plain scoop without the flick mechanism is the best design.

Simply dip the scoop into a glass of warm water, dry it then scoop to serve the perfect scoop of ice cream.
